From AI Experimentation to Enterprise Adoption

April 22, 2026 · 7 min read

A successful pilot and a successful rollout are different achievements. Most organizations underestimate the gap between them.

It has become relatively easy to run a promising AI pilot. A small team tests a tool on a contained use case, sees encouraging results, and reports success. What is far harder — and far more consequential — is turning that pilot into something the whole organization can rely on.

The gap between pilot and enterprise adoption is usually made up of things that have little to do with the technology itself: governance, training, change management, data quality at scale and clear ownership of outcomes.

Organizations that cross this gap successfully tend to treat adoption as a parallel workstream from day one, not a phase that begins after the pilot succeeds. They identify who will own the process once it is live, how success will be measured beyond the pilot group, and what training staff will need before the tool reaches their desks.

They also tend to resist the temptation to scale too many pilots at once. A single workflow, fully adopted and measured, is worth more than five pilots that never move past demonstration.
